Scientists are working to make cows obsolete

Commentary By: Albert Mascheroni

Each cow drinks a bathtub of water; so away w/the cattle? What about you or me? Will “they” render us obsolete? According to my dreams being warned of God, yes. Water is scarce & they’re taking extreme measures. Do my posts mean nothing? Will you finally raise an eyebrow to the signs of the present time? It matters.sandra muI keep hearing this “faithful” people say God will provide, let us make merry until that time. But their bellies are full when they boast in the Lord & I have not seen them clothed in spiritual sackcloth. Me personally, I don’t post for my well-being. I post in the dread & anticipation of what’s coming upon us soon. I talk to people, then I see them going on vacation, buying new things, making merry w/each other, exchanging gifts. Listing these things they do only makes me more ill.

Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. – Amos 5:18

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD. – Ezekiel 21:7

I say dress NOW in sackcloth, spread the gospel, give the message of reconciliation, save w/fear if you could & may God remember our hardships & unyielding labors come the hour of temptation. “God will save us”, so says the pacifist Christian, who goes on their merry way on their merry day. He will feed us says the pacifists whose indifference will be remembered.

If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? – Proverbs 24:12

And come the hour, unless this people be humbled & stop any murmuring they will receive no meat. God will not provide blessings for a rebellious house on the road to destruction. How long did the Israelite’s wander the desert until all the rebelliousness had passed away? They complained about having no water, no meat, they murmured against God’s chosen servant Moses.

God said I will send back the prophet Elijah before the great & dreadful day of the Lord. Elijah prayed that God w/hold the rain bc Elijah saw how wicked Israel had become. It will be the same. No food & no water & the prophesied famine. Will the Christian still faithfully glory in the LORD when he has no McDonalds? Given that hearts are humbled enough, if I may be so bold to say it, then yes, God will provide miracles. But even if hope seems lost & God does not provide as expected, how faithful will His faithful remnant be?

I speak to everyone who has ears to hear.

We depend on cows for food, clothing & sometimes even insulin. Cattle, though, are expensive & inefficient — each cow drinks a bathtub of water & emits 3 times that volume of methane daily. There are also the ethics of animal slaughter. But we might no longer need the cow. Scientists are synthesizing the substances we normally get from cows by using bovine cells, yeast & even bacteria.

Since tissue engineer Mark Post debuted an in vitro burger in 2013, several companies have tried to create tasty, scalable test-tube meat. Though Memphis Meats recently unveiled a cultured meatball, two challenges—chewability and cost—have derailed other attempts.

To make lab-grown leather, Modern Meadow uses bovine cells to grow sheets of collagen, which are then tanned and cut into leather goods, such as jackets. A bonus: Workers don’t have to deal with the hair or subcutaneous fat that comes with animal skin.

Foreign antibodies can prevent animal tissue from being used on human injuries. But KOD—a synthetically derived collagen, stops bleeding, promotes tissue regrowth—and, because it lacks bovine genes, won’t be rejected.

Biologists in Sweden are engineering cartilage tissue for human joints using cells from cow knees. Cartilage is tricky—it has to bend and stretch, but it regenerates slowly. “If we can make the process work with bovine cells, we can one day do the same with human cells,” says team member Janne Ylärinne.

Muufri, a bioengineering startup, makes milk that’s more dairylike than almond or soy. The company adds 3D-printed cow DNA into yeast cells, then harvests the milk protein it produces—like making penicillin or beer. Adding calcium and potassium, the mixture emulsifies and gives it the same nutritional and textural qualities as milk.

Cow insulin moderates diabetics’ blood-sugar levels but can cause allergic reactions, and synthetic analog insulin must be carefully dosed. Now, researchers at MIT are synthesizing a new form of insulin that stays in the blood and activates only when sugar levels are too high.
